Most modern smart phones, despite my personal opinion that they should all be destroyed along with their respective users, are aware of their orientation.
While this assumption could be faulty, it would seem that if a phone can determine its orientation, it should also be able to sense when it has
been dropped.
It seems only appropriate, given the abilities of smart phones, that they should scream when thier user drops them, and upon hitting the ground they should whimper and moan softly until succumbing to death.

redundant [xenzag, Feb 11 2011]

Anything with an accelerometer ought to be able to detect free-fall. |

PCIS - personalised cringe-making impact sound (see link) |

...cell phone parachutes? |
I read this as "Faking Death Cell Phone Application" |
I did implement this on one of our phones about three years ago - the accelerometers actually have a free-fall interrupt output. |
I say it's the same idea as mine, and is therefore redundant. |
I'll concede to the redundancy, [xenzag]. |
The implementation may differ, but the overall idea is the same. |
I am humbly requesting to keep the idea, however... as I am still a bit insecure about the length of my profile page. |
No probs with that... and I never called for the idea to be deleted, as you may notice. |
//I never called for the idea to be deleted, as you may notice// sure sounded like it: "redundant" and "it's the same ideas as mine, and is therefore redundant" doesn't leave much room for maneuvering. |
But there's room for both since this one is mostly concerned with the falling whereas yours is with the splatting. |
I agree with the [Toaster]. |
// I am still a bit insecure about the length of my profile page. // |
So am i about mine. It's too long and suggests i haven't got a life. |
As it happens, one of the laptops here turns off the hard drive or something if it feels itself falling. |
// I am still a bit insecure about the length of my profile
page.// That's all right [MikeD]. Just don't start responding
to "marked for dilution" annos with "I can't understand it!
This has never happened to me before." |
