It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's the Extreme Where's Waldo? Competition, where people with sharp-seeing eyes come from all over the world to hunt for that stripe-shirted man!
For those unfamiliar with the game, the participants stand on an elevated balcony running around the perimeter of the
room. Below is a chaotic scene - people, animals running about, things here and there. Of course, during this time, everyone will be moving, so it will be more difficult than the books. Amidst all of it is Waldo, bedecked in his usual outfit with glasses and cane.
The floor is a grid, with letters A-G running down and numbers 1-7 across. When a player has found Waldo, s/he presses a button, which will sound, indicating to the people below to halt. The player will say which square the man is in, and if correct, moves on to the next round. As competitors progress, the squares will become smaller and the room larger.
Players could be divided into teams in alternate versions of the game.
For those of you wanting extremity, the contestants could all be dangling above the scene on bungee cords armed with paintball guns they could use to distract the other competitors until a plane crashes into them in 30 minutes.

That sounds so hard. Can you come up with a version where it is much easier than normal to find Waldo? My counselors say that any sort of small victories could help with my MSES (mediocre self-esteem syndrome). + |
"Live WW" maybe. "Extreme WW"? I don't think so, unless the participants were bungee-ing mountain bikers, or white-water skateboarders or something. Bun withheld in the hope of more extremism. |

Baked at this year's Reading Festival. A friend of a friend went dressed as Wally with stripy shirt, hat and silly glasses. Not only did it make him easy to find in the crowd, we were continually amused by the people who upon sighting him would double-take, shriek "I've found him!", and come over to say hi and take a photo. |

In an oblique way [DrC], you just did. |
Google earth is a great program! omg google should host a wheres waldo search placing him somewhere on the world.. some kindof prize would be needed of course. Nice idea adze & soliloguy |
My version of a more extreme WW would be where you have the whole bunch of people milling around and such, but you have 30 minutes before a Plane crashes into the tower YOU'RE STANDING ON. |
This is more 'Fancy dress hide & seek' than 'Extreme Where's Waldo', but this gets my elusive bun. |
Could also do a "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" with the google earth...great idea sol.! + |
Now there is a game I haven´t heard of in ages [goober] and yes that would be great. |

Where's Waldo's Airship Docking Tower? |
No one will believe this but my brother and some friends actually thought of this a few months back. They were going to have a screen with it on, no movement. You have to find waldo with your stylus and are given 2 pixels accuracy. |
Told you you wouldn't believe it. |

Google Earth is made of aerial photographs, right? Maybe
Google could have a Where's the Good Year blimp or
something like that. What is the resolution? Can you
resolve cars? Maybe Google could team up with
companies like Oscar Meyer and do a Where's the Oscar
Meyer Weiner Mobile. |
No that isn't entirely possible. Google Earth can't really zoom in far enough to distinguish a person. Cars sometimes, but not people. Plus it's just to damn huge! The Planet I mean. Maybe just assign an area, like a state. But what happens if your big enough target goes under a tree or bridge or something? What if the search goes on for days and the Waldo has to sleep? Does he/she sleep out in the middle of the road so you can find it? |
If people can win the lottery im sure somebody could find waldo on goodle earth. Good point [pickels] Waldo would have to be enlarged to about the size of a car or bigger. |
[Jesus] good idea bringing in other things to find besides waldo. Large corporations could hide their mascott, blimp, or whatever it is they want people to find. If a reward was given and advertised widely enough, alot of people would download the program etc. win win situtation. - Alot of people I know still dont know about Google Earth and are amazed when they see it. |
Too bad were not allowed higher resolutions. We could play Wheres Osama for $50 mil. |
I envision the computer version of this as something like that old game Robotron. |
