Jumping from an open top to a standard, well soundproofed, saloon shows me how much I use hearing to locate other traffic. So I wondered if it would be worth using external microphones (suitably muffled) to reproduce the sounds on the speakers when the audio system is turned up loud.

Actually, I think it would be quite eerie to have 5.1 surround sound of a passing vehicle.

[Ling], I think this idea could let people avoid many car accidents. [+]

It would be fun to play with but it would drive me crazy as often as I am in traffic.

[21_Quest] Agreed. Strongly. Though, I fear the makers know better than you or I what the (average) customer really wants and will pay for.

Awesome, I could yell at drivers to lower their blasting radios, and they'd hear me!
