This is a device integrated into the loudest of car stereos. Ones where no amount of shouting can attract the attention of the driver/DJ as he shares his tunes with the entire county.
Volume of the stereo can be reduced by simply applying a sharp thump to anywhere on the exterior of the car. The
system detects this thump reduces the volume. The sharper the thump, the greater the volume reduction. Repeated thumps can reduce the volume to a level comfortable to passers by.

If you made it sufficiently sensitive to vibration, it would control itself. |

A nice idea, which does address a real problem, but with one difficulty in actual use ... most of the cars like this around where I live are operated by persons ranging between Thugs and Groups of Sullen Youths, who might actively resent having their car thumped repeatedly. |

Well [batou] you could always stand off at a distance and do your thumping with that half bakery favorite, the paintball gun. You don't have to use your boot or a baseball bat. |

A shotgun works pretty well, too. |

This happens to me all the time. I have a loud vehicle that gets pounded on constantly, by random people! But then again I like to blast journey and zeppelin in the ghetto (rochester ny) ......not kidding |
