Recently, I was looking at a couple of heavy metal
festivals.
The events feature bands, some new, some old school.
They all
have
their own sound and fans who like it, from the intricate
to
the simplistic and brutal. If you think about it, an
explosion could be considered at one end of
the metal
spectrum, with someone like Opeth at the other end...
anyway I digress. My point is that explosions are fun. It's
no
fun when people die, but that's not necessary. So, let's
create an explosion festival.
Find a desert, or big open field*, then put together your
explosion line up. Bring in the appropriate experts to set
everything off, add some lighting, possibly some ominous
music... done.
"Hey dude, what you here for?"
"Well, everybody's gonna want to watch the 10 tonnes of
Ammonium Perchlorate, it's headlining for a reason, but
I'm old school, I'm gonna be front and center for the
nitroglycerine on sunday morning.... just has a nice
"crack!" you know?"
"I'm not a crack kind of guy, I'm stoked for the
"whumph!!"
you get from fuel-air"
"conflagration guy eh? when's fuel air on?"
"sunday, just before hydrogen"
"I'll be at the beer tent for that, I hate pop... especially
squeaky"
"Yeah, well, there's a garbage can of thermite on the
other
stage"
"pah, thermite, in the day? waste if you ask me"
"too right, bring your hat?"
"10 tonnes of ammonium nitrate buried at 50ft down? I'm
not having a pound of soil down my shirt... not again,
got
two hats"
and so on.
*If I were a farmer, i'd be OK with someone using one of
my fallow fields considering the amounts of free fixed
nitrogen that's likely to be thrown about.

I saw Blatant Pandering live - it was okay, but I like their studio work better. |

Isn't this a fireworks display taken to a bit of an extreme? |

I've turned my attention to implodier things. But explosions are nice. |

If things implode and explode, what's plode? |
" plaudere to clap, applaud" |
For example when I say the schizophrenic on stage with Obama was implosion, on one level I mean nobody clapped when they should have. The meaning was lost. Explosion, implosion, displode is very interesting etymology. |

There's a video on YouTube (which I might look for when I'm on a sytem that can access YouTube) of the US military dumping 400 tons of surplus metallic Sodium in a lake - it really makes quite a good explosion |
There's no way in the world 400 tons of sodium was "surplus"
there's a market for that kind of stuff. Which makes it all
the cooler that they did it. |

Can we hold this year's festivities on the Iraqi-Syrian border? |
Like pushing a cow into a river full of piranha... |
[Loris] yes, that was the video I was thinking of - what else
are you supposed to do with surplus sodium? |
While dumping surplus sodium in water might be fun, it
leads to surplus sodium hydroxide, which is even less useful. |
AHAHAHAHAHA !!! HAHAHAHA !!! YEHAHAHAHA !! |
The jolly music on that video is excellent |
The "400 tons sodium" link audio states 20,000 lb - which
would be 10 tons, not 400. |
Which, when added to Lake Lenore, comes out to about a
28 micromolar NaOH solution. |
//Only 10 tons of sodium!// |
Mexico has that make-your-own-explosive-hammer
festival, which is related, I guess. |
boom, boom, bang, pop, What did you say? |
//The "400 tons sodium" link audio states 20,000 lb - which would be 10 tons, not 400.// |
Oh. I suppose I thought those were much smaller american tons, or something. |
//much smaller american tons, or something.// |
Smaller American pints, combined with lax regulations on
glass fullness means a British pint is routinely 50% more by
volume. This leads to unexpected sobriety/drunkenness
upon transatlantic travel. Also, they sell quarts of half &
half over here. Not sure what to make of that. |
