Exploding Collision Cars

Cars that explode on impact.

To ensure people drive safely fill everyones cars with explosives, then when someone has a crash, roadside sensors detect who's fault it was and automatically blows up their car. This extreme safety measure ensures that (a) people drive carefully because they don't want to get blown up and (b) Only the good drivers remain because all the bad ones have been blown up.

Do I get special dispensation for riding a motor bike..?

Surely the roadside sensors should detect an impending crash before it happens, and blow up the soon-to-be-at-fault party, thus preventing damage to other vehicles/etc?

Oh, and -1 until it is explained how the sensors aren't magic.

I wouldn't want to be a passenger in one of these cars! Couldn't you just have exploding drivers’ licences instead?
dobtabulous, Dec 18 2003

If the blame is split 50:50, do you blow up half of each person's car?
kropotkin, Dec 18 2003

you mean all cars don’t explode on impact already?? damn you, Hollywood...

actually, I like this idea less and less as I think about it. don't you think the "good" driver has suffered enough by being in a car crash? why would you want to set off a huge bomb right next to them while they lie unconscious and/or trapped in their vehicle waiting for help? an explosive fishbone for you, Micky

       //This extreme safety measure //

I fail to understand how "filling everyones cars with explosives" is a saftey measure at all. If you just want to scare people into driving better, show them those graphic, disturbing blood-and-guts "Red Concrete" saftey driving videos once a day.

[dobtabulous], the passengers would have ejection seats so they would be thrown clear before the at fault car blows up.

This would also be useful for suicide bombers. Now they don't have to do all the explosive buying and wiring. They just buy a new car and crash into something. When the sensors see they were at fault, BOOM!

So you us all to drive pintos?

Maybe what you need is a tank

time for good idea, bad idea.........good idea: wanting to blow up bad drivers....bad idea: trying to do it this way.....:)

All of us would drive Chevy Corvairs ... If everyone was driving Corvairs, you would still only have about a 50-50 chance at reaching your destination alive if you were walking.

There is someone in my town with a restored Corvair that has the personalized license plate: UNSAFE.

They were condemned by Ralph Nader as "Rolling death traps" and "Unsafe ant any speed" back in the 60s

We've done this sort of thing several times now.

Some of you, and unfortunately I doubt you know who you are, take these ideas much too seriously.

Already baked: It's called the Ford Pinto

peoples it was the pinto that would explode if it was rear ended, the corvair had some issues because of the swing-axle suspension could cause throttle lift off oversteer especially when combined with the rear engine design. But the issue was blown out of proportion by Ralph Nader, so much so, that it killed the sales of the car, even after GM redesigned the rear suspension
