Exploding Art Sculpture

How beautiful a statue is when it goes boom....

Instead of using clay to make sculpture, the graduates of the DesertFox Exploding Art Institute make aesthetic art pieces out of moldeable plastic explosive.

Not just beautiful to look at normally, each piece is especially crafted to bring out a unique and breathtakingly shaped explosion, via small shaped charges.

They craft the lump carefully with all sorts of tools to create the modern day explosive mona lisa, then they stick it in a bomb range to let you watch your beautiful painted flower become a beautiful flower-shaped explosion.

A bomb a day keeps the boredom away!

One of C.J. Cherryh's books featured an unstable (i.e., explosive) substance that created a wildly random sculpture on exploding. Perhaps you could do that - create a quick-setting foam with an explosive reaction. Then you'd have something to take home (and/or sell) afterwards.

Or combine it with simonj's huge lump of clay, and get something new every day.

That is where I got the idea.

I didn't see it there, i thought of it while reading the idea.

This has been annotated four times (not including the author) and not voted on once, what craziness is this? I vote positive for artistic originality.

       9/11 was sad.

Would this actually work, though? Explosions seem to be pretty random in shape due to, I suppose, environmental effects. Maybe it should be done in space.

heh. Fireworks _have_ form. I noticed that explosive patterns leave characteristic clouds.. I also like the idea of foam that sets on inpact.. Shaping this to the sculptor's whim, though... borders on magic.

Let's just forget about those comments, shall we?

I've deleted them out of sadness. I apreciate your opinion, though.

You can edit your annos. I deleted the first one, though.

Nice idea about the room. Post it and I'll give it a bun.
