Do you program your own characters, or what? |
Yes, you can, but hopefully there should be a selection of pre-made characters that the developers created. |
cool I want to be Mr T or Godzilla no wait, Arnold Schwarzenegger (pre and post election).........
Mother Theresa v Princess Diana, Let's get ready to rumble |
oh, OH, I got generic farmer mad at all the world |
"Character files are totally editable, so you can make anyone you want" - um, does that make this software magic? |
Sure. Just draw him *exactly* as you see him. Or else, how would people know you were Dr. Curry? |
[DrCurry] I don't know how to test whether software is magic, but several games let you make your own 'skins' for characters. See link. |
How would you draw Greed? |
We can finally settle the Great White vs. Grizzly Bear question. |
Freddy Vs. Jason. Naw too farfetched. |
lawpoop: However editable the files are, *I* could not make myself into Britney Spears, FarmerJohn or anyone, not having even the least amount of skin drawing ability. You would have to provide an extensive archive of personalities and/or an easy way of creating new skins. |

In a broader context, this does raise an issue of personal copyrighting. To what extent is my persona, diligently cultivated over years of personal effort and expense, my personal trademark (or possibly copyright), that you cannot simply stick in a game just because someone thinks it's cool? You cannot, after all, stick Spongebob Squarepants in there without payign a royalty. |
At least in the US, copyright is automatically granted to the author on the creation of a work. So I would think that your parents own the copyright on you? |
It's kinda baked as "google fight" (see link). |
But if you're talking about putting "mods" into a playstation special version of street fighter/tekken/etc, then that's doable. Software like this isn't any more magic than the half-bakery website itself. |
<side>Imagine if they had the half-bakery in the middle ages. Well, maybe they wouldn't have taken as long to get to the rennaissance, eh?</side> |
The tricky part would be how to build a character on your own, and let someone customize special moves (like Ghandi's killer "hunger protest" counter move), but not let them just cheat by adding invincibility, instant-death-touch, etc. I'd think you'd still have to have some programming skills to build your character, and would need some 3rd-party assessment to assign a fair handicap. Would be neat as part of internet gaming. |
programming skills?
ever seen the game 'fighter maker' on playstation? |
it really sucks! but the option of creating your own character and moves was (the only) one good thing about it. it had a complete editor, no programming needed.
since the game is in 3d you can easilly manipulate the movement and skins of the character. a little like playing with action figures there. |
when it comes to hadou ken and other kinds of 'fireball' moves, the char. creator just needs a few additions. |

MUGEN makes this possible! Read the MUGEN wiki. There is a subculture of people creating thousands of selections to fight with. But right now it is mostly vintage video games characters. If someone started a novelty site for making MUGENS of Tom Crusie, Ronald McDonnald, Winni the Pooh, George Bush, Sadam, Santa, Jesus, Johny KnoxVille, shoot, you could just do a whole Jackass serries and have mtv buy it from you. There would emerge a culture of tv show theamed muggen character packs. |

I wanna play as freddy against Grimace. Hahaaha. Right now I have the Super Mario Bros (Both of them) fighting MegamanX. |
This IS possible. It is not being done yet. |
