Frozen concentrated orange juice comes in easy-open packages. You merely pry up a tab of plastic and pull the ring of plastic from around the top and violá; you are ready to start making juice.
My problem is that I open about 60-70 cans of frozen concentrate every month and I normally have to resort
to gripping the tab with my teeth due to the smooth, slippery nature of the plastic. I thought, why not just put some texturing on the end of the tab for additional grip. The cost would be minimal and with the texturing, a solid grasp could be obtained.
I am not sure if this is baked. I may be just buying the wrong brand of juice, but I have never seen this feature on easy-open cans.

[Klaatu] glad to see you half baking again, I would recommend Tropicana, as there is a finger hole in the tab. I've been looking for a link, so far no luck. |

Took me awhile to realise/accept that the idea is the easy-grasp tab, not the frozen juice. Is frozen juice a common medium of juice distribution (ignoring popsicle-type frozen snacks)? |

Good solution to the specific problem, [Klaatu]. (You could, of course, do this yourself with a pair of artists' canvas pliers, but that isn't the issue.) |

As dentworth indicates for Tropicana, the 16oz. Kirkland Signature o.j. from Costco has a ring instead of a tab. |

[klaatu] Are you on some kind of high vitamin C diet? Do you have a large family? Do you live in an area where the water is unfit to drink? Is there any lining left on your stomach? |

Actually, juice packaging (liquid and frozen)in any non-bottle presentation is difficult - there are so many opening/pouring contraptions and configurations in the market and none of them seem consumer friendly. One large company in Australia has tried at least 12 configurations on their 1 litre juice cartons in the past five years and it's still not making customers happy. <sigh> |

Perhaps Klaatu works in food service such as a restaurant or in some capacity where he cares for the nutritional needs of others, such as a daycare or nursing home? |

Good grief man, that's a *lot* of Vitamin C. You can always get this stuff delivered by tanker, which sounds like a better solution. |

I can tell you [Gromit ] is correct, Klaatu is a director in a nursing home type of setting. has many charges. I don't think he'd mind my answering for him. |

As [dentworth] indicated, I am the resident manager for an adult foster care facility. I am the care provider for 5 mentally ill adults. Most of the psychiatric medications dehydrate severely. In addition to the 60-70 cans of FCOJ a month, my residents also consume at least 80 packages of prepared Kool-Aid and 400-500 bags of tea. I try to limit their intake of coffee and soda pop, but they are free to go to the fast food outlets or the grocery store. |

I must buy FCOJ due to the sheer volume of food that I need to store monthly. Storage becomes quite an issue. I also must purchase food that it inexpensive (profit) and yet nutritious and interesting to the palette. |

When cooking 90 meals a month, anything that makes life easier in the kitchen is welcomed. All that I want is a bit of texturing on that stupid tab to make it easy to grip in my arthritic fingers. |

It's such a simple solution to a seemingly small problem that it deserves a croissant. I say seemingly small, but this must be a huge problem for thousands of people with arthritis, muscle problems, etc not to mention those of us who are just slightly rubbish with smooth tabby things. + |

The only problem I can see is that texturing may weaken the material. I often have the plastic break as I pull. Of course, this could be solved by the OJ companies not being cheap and spending an extra 1/1000 of a cent on a thicker plastic strip. |

If you didn't already have enough reasons to hang on to those sardine tin keys, use one of those to remove the strip. |

Mentally ill adults on orange juice sugar rushes? Wow... |

We counteract the sugar rush with a bit of Haloperidol, Clozapine, Depakote and a few others. The problem with most psych drugs is that they tend to dehydrate and constipate badly. Fluid replacement is always top priority. Medications will act differently in a dehydrated person, and most of my people are "brittle" on their medications. A few mgs. this way or that makes a big difference in their life...and mine. |
