Environment Television

A television channel which broadcasts from various locales (environments).

Watch the waves on an empty beach. Watch butterflys flitter in a meadow. Watch penguins, er, do whatever penguins do.

Sponsorship is provided by advertisement overlays at the bottom of the screen or tucked discretely into the scene (This hours' program, "Niagra", brought to you by Depends; or, for the beach scene, the Coppertone logo is drawn/imprinted in the sand)

Exclusive discos or busy New York street corners could also be broadcast.

Audio is top quality HiFi Dolby Surround QuadroTHX-1138 Sensaround to bring the environment into your home.

       You mean like web-cam ?

did you see the scenery[screen?] in back to the future 2?
technobadger, Aug 20 2001

Well, how similar is a web cam to television? I don't know of any that support audio, let alone any that broadcast over cable television.

I imagine a full-fledged camera setup, probably in some sort of portable box complete with power supply, satellite transmitter, etc. Something that could be picked up and moved if desired or left in a location that proved popular with viewers.

And sure, you might catch a sunset (even intentionally), but that isn't the sole purpose of the channel. The idea is to allow people to view/hear peaceful/exotic/beautiful environments on television. There is a broadcast schedule (9pm - 10pm: Amazon rainforest, 10pm - 11pm: Quiet mountain stream) so there should be something for everyone.

I thought ETv was another thought on that a-retentive alien wart--sorry!

Perforce, I'm for anything that gets webcams broadcast to television. CRoissant

When I was in Austria a few years ago, the hotel I was in had several channels dedicated to live inaction footage of the local mountains. They never changed location though (except between cameras on different parts of the same mountains), so not completely baked. But certainly well-kneaded.

Very. I stream live & archived sets from various webcasts on a daily basis.

At the risk of sounding like I'm defending this idea (it's out there, you guys do what you want with it), in my mind a web cam and a webcast are two different animals.

And, I suppose, if the quality of my television signal varied by the number of people viewing it or by the number of stations broadcasting it I would agree with you. But it doesn't, so I don't.

I'm watching ETV at this moment! Brooke Burke is "Wild On" something or other. And it doesn't appear to be the environment.

Sounds worryingly like the Landscape Channel (which may or may not still exist, so this might be redundant).
afroman, Oct 22 2001

[afroman] Landscape TV does look a lot like my ETV idea. At least two things differentiate my idea from LTV, however:
1) ETV doesn't use background music, and
2) ETV won't carry obituary programming.
