My city has the same car for many departments. While I
could believe that some are highly specialized, there are also
pretty
generic Ford SUVs that mainly differ by the decals, and color of
their
flashing lights.
- Health
- City Inspectors
- Transit Supervisors
- Fire
- Police
-
Other?
I bet there is a lot of waste in that each department has more
vehicles than they actually need (because sometimes they need
extras). Fair enough, but why not share some?
Decals would be LED powered so that you could change city
inspector
vehicle to police supervisor with a press of a button (if
authorized)... ditto for top flashing lights and siren.
If a police officer was carrying a wounded victim their mode would
alternate between police and ambulance every few seconds.
Of course demo mode would alternate between all in sequence.

So all that's really required is for different branches of local govenment to cooperate in a spirit of goodwill, rather than fighting one another tooth and claw for every penny of budget money. |

On the plus side, the sequence
"Police/ Fire/ Ambulance/ Coroner" could be pre-
programmed into the LED decals. |

... altho in certain parts of the USA, the simplified sequence of Police/Coroner would seem to cover the greater part of the most common situations. |

Actually, they could go one better and just arm the
coroners. It would have the advantage of giving
them more control over their workflow. |

Judge Dredd would certainly approve of that. |

You forgot "Coastguard" and "Mountain Rescue" |
