Dropbed

It's a bed designed to wake you up by subjecting you to freefall. This should wake you up suddenly and terrifyingly, inspired by the movie Inception [link] and [whimsickle]'s idea "Terror Clock" [link]. The bedframe has linear actuators of some sort (pneumatic?) in the four legs, capable of lifting the weight of the mattress and sleeper(s), dropping that weight suddenly, and finally catching that falling weight to provide a soft landing. The bed is at the regular height when you get into it and throughout the night, and drops in the morning (when triggered by your physical alarm clock or alarm clock phone app) into the empty under-bed space. If you like to store things under your bed, you can buy a set of leg extensions. With these, the bed will still start at the normal height in the evening, but will raise itself up higher shortly before the alarm time, and then drop back to the normal height, instead of dropping below its normal height.
