Disposable Succah

Succah (the Jewish religious hut) needed 7 days a year

If they would be made from cardboard (including the roof, I could find orthodox rabbis who would attest to there being lawful), and somebody could make a small fortune.

Oh and if we're already with religious artifacts: a lightbulb coverer for people who don't turn off lights on the Sabbath. (like me).

Why don't you just use the box your fridge came in. Which would make this Baked, of course. [DrCurry, Jun 23 2002, last modified Oct 05 2004]

Constructing Succahs out of disposable materials like cardboard http://www.jajz-ed....stivls/tish/24.html
is not only theologically sound but actually practised. At least in school. [DrCurry, Jun 23 2002, last modified Oct 05 2004]

If the Succah were made of cardboard, would it still be considered work to put it together?
RayfordSteele, Jun 22 2002

Not to be disrespectful, but for those of us out in bakeland who think a "Succah" is born every minute, could you please provide a good link to show what one looks like?

If I ‘tent’ your house with rolls of aluminum foil, do you promise to not clean up until Monday?

Dr, my fridge came in a fridge?
RayfordSteele, Jun 23 2002

Notice I added two links. Thanks. (And by the way, I like my traditions...)
pashute, Jun 23 2002

RS: er, yes, thank you, I think that the meaning should be clearer now.

pashute: I guess you don't pay much attention to what other people say.

Please call it the I'm Gonna Git You, Succah.

this year is 5763 in the Jewish calendar, and one of those links says that the convention where this 2002 is the 'Civil year'; I know this may sound terribly ignorant, but from what event is the Jewish calendar measured? And why does meat in water have to be entirely submerged? [delete this anno with my apologies if it's at all offensive, pashute]
also, why this category? wouldn't Other:Religion be better?

q: // from what event is the Jewish calendar measured? //

       a: from the beginning.
mihali, Jun 24 2002

I've often thought that 5700 years isn't enough time to account for all those 900 year olds in the long list of 'begats'.

They may have started begetting at a (relatively) early age.

According to the Bible, Adam lived to be 930 years old - Methuselah outlived him by 39 years, barely beating out Jared at the number 2 position of 967 years. This is Kasey Kasem...

¯angel: “They may have started begetting at a (relatively) early age.” -- true that.

Let's not forget that those ancients were years ahead (of their time) in placing future events as part of their version of pre-recorded history. Version: Adam died after he was born in the year 930 or (5763-930) 4833 years ago, so his age is clearly irrelevant in the larger scheme of things. There is some admittedly small justification for this point of view if one adds up the stated ages of the patriarchs of Israel; thereby, arriving at a date in the low 4000s. Stats from OT courses years ago, flocks, so don't blame me if I haven't done any research for you.

       It aint necessarilly so ooooo....

Dr Curry, sorry, and a late thanx! In any case, I meant it as a product, not a kids project (which probably wouldn't get the "approval".

Some discussion on this was lost probably in the crash... Anyways, the lightbulb coverer for Sabbath has been baked recently, and is even patent pending! I won't argue with them, (notice this posting was from 2002!) 'cause I like the idea, and quite sure they thought of it independently. If they did not, then still I have enough good ideas of my own... See link.
