Despite the popularity of disposable diapers for babies
and
disposable clothes for hospital patients, disposable
clothing
has not taken off in the mainstream. Imagine a world
where we wear shirts and pants that you wear once and
then throw away.
Benefits:
1. Clothing manufacturers have
a steady stream of
revenue.
2. Washers/dryers become obsolete.
3. Lower risk that someone else is wearing the same
thing.
The only big con I see is the environment impact. The
fabric could be recyclable/compostable. The lack of
need
for washing/drying might offset some of the impact.
What we need is a shift in the culture to make this
acceptable. Maybe celebrities can start off this trend by
wearing disposable clothing.
There might some niche markets which could start this
trend: tourists on vacation, people at water parks,
swimming pools, house painters, homeless people who
can't afford traditional clothing, people in earthquake
zones or in natural disaster shelters who lost all their
belongings.
Catching on with teens.

There was a young man from Shoreham
Who made paper trousers and wore 'em.
He looked very neat
'Til he bent in the street
To pick up a coin, and he tore 'em. |

There once was a lass from Nantucket Who'd state, "Once per frock." and she'd shuck it. Indulging her druther she'd just don another, n'toss the worn one in the nearest bucket. |

Why don't we just go back to wearing leaves like Adam and Eve? |
|
|
Because Maine is a little chilly for a fig leaf in the winter.
That's my reason. |

Received wisdom informs that - for human females - no dress can be worn more than once, and frequently not even that often ... |

"I've got nothing to wear !" |

Apparently, the response "Oh, good !" is not acceptable. |
