Most users have a hard time understanding what specific activities are dangerous. Further, it is probably easier to detect a successful attack than guard against all attacks.

Disk Gruntle monitors important system features (see the honeymonkey system for a good start) and emits a groan if a successful attack is detected. Hopefully, this will occur within a few seconds of the user's activity that permitted the security breach, and they can a) seek help for their damaged machine and b) perhaps not repeat their dangerous behavior.

Entirely unclear as to the value of this. Any such defense system should be repelling the attacks it identifies, with or without grunting. How is it going to warn you about something it doesn't know about?

I wanted something like this today, as a matter of fact. My laptop hard disk was going crazy buggers and I'd closed down every application. I wanted to know what the hell windows was doing!
