Blowing up all wine glasses seems extreme. But who has not wanted to blow up _one_ wine glass, from time to time? One could use parabolic microphone technology in reverse, to unobtrusively focus a tight beam of high amplitude sound waves onto one wine glass, from a distance. The wine glass would be
destroyed with only a faint hum audible to those near it.
Festive Musical Glass Breaker
http://www.halfbake...l_20Glass_20Breaker Certainly not one of my better ideas, but it does describe valid cultural grounds for the shattering of individual glasses. [Shz, Oct 04 2004, last modified Oct 05 2004]

Hmmm... You took an idea that was crap, and used it as fertalizer to grow a beautiful glass shattering flower. I'm still fishboning until you tell me why anyone would want one. |
I think that's a pointless demand, really. Someone could want one of these for any number of reasons but mostly, I suspect, for the same thrills that cause some people to like big firecrackers. |

You could blow up a wine glass with a big firecracker. |

1. You see your peanut allergic friend is about to drink peanut-containing wine but cannot reach her in time to warn her. Avert catastrophe by destroying her wine glass. |
2. A large, scary man has drunk too much wine and you are worried about his ability to drive home. Rather than confront him, destroy his wine glass. |
3. You are at a wedding and see that a guest is about to propose another lame toast. Quickly: destroy his wine glass. |
4. You note a slave monkey curiously toying with a glass full of wine. If you forbid it to drink, it will surely go back for the wine when you are gone. Teach it that wine is unpredictable: destroy the wine glass. |

[bungs]: Did you see the article in Last Sunday's NY TImes magazine about pinpoint, long-range sound projection? I didn't, but it seemed pretty cool. Maybe you should talk to the guy in the article. Cracking defense, by the way! |

As promised, from fishbone to croissant. I now want one, if only to teach that damn monkey a lesson. |

Or, on the other hand, there is the wideband version, also known as my dishwasher. |

Directional wine glass destructor sounds much more fun.Bidirectional even more fun.Only my glass left.Mythical God status. |

The Chinese and Koreans make pine nut wine. I don't know how dangerous it is to those with nut allergies, but this may be a real and serious problem requiring drastic action. I am now working on a directional danish pastry destructor and a directional fruit cake destructor to work on other threats. |

That's pretty much the same as my idea(resonator), only more limited. |

I have built two large parabolic reflectors for audio. As
soon as i have enough space i'll give it a go. I'm not sure
how unobtrusive it will be, as each dish is 1m across. |
