Like Rollercoaster Tycoon or Theme Park but with dinosaurs.

Why do companies like DreamWorks keep putting out platform, adventure and even a fighting (?) game based on the Jurassic Park movies, when this idea, hands down would be the coolest idea out there.

Much like a game called Dinopark Tycoon from many years ago, it involves running and maintaining a theme park containing dinosaurs, and making a profit from it. You can hire employees (vets, gardeners, cleaners, rangers, even soldiers), advertise your park, and introduce species. You could play safe with only plant-eaters, but, since all the kiddies wanna see them, putting in the more exciting, yet more dangerous meat-eaters would make more visitors come.

However, unlike Dinopark Tycoon, in this game you have the ability to choose where and what your park will be like. Locations might include an island, a valley surrounded by mountains, or a zoo type setting. Different locations would also determine your possible visitor intake, running costs and facilities to build (like a hotel or helipad). Different types of dinosaurs will also be more suited to different climates. Also some species would require certain facilities, pterodactyls need an avary like in the Jurassic Park novel.

You would also have to manage "incidents", such as lost kids, electric fence failure, escaping dinos or even tropical storms, complete computer failure and even poachers!

These modes could be tackled in a Command & Conquer type mode, leading a bunch of units. However, killing any dinos would be at your own risk, do you want to lose a costly investment?

And, come on...dinosaurs? It's gonna sell like hotcakes.

Not exactly the real deal, but the expansion packs come with dinosaur-era scenery sets, so you could pretend. [mrkillboy, Jun 29 2000, last modified Oct 04 2004]

"Only for Game Boy Advance". Obviously the choice for the sim gamer <sprinkle sarcasm here>. [mrkillboy, Jun 29 2000, last modified Oct 04 2004]

Get Zoo Tycoon, then get the Dinosaur expansion pack. Does just what you want.

Jurassic park: Operation Genesis released in 2003 by Universal interactive. Park builder's bigger brother. Fully 3D environment and creatures unlike Zoo Tycoon/Dino digs. More basic gameplay though.
