Digestible tinsel

 Decorate your Christmas tree without risking a trip to the vet

Anyone who ever owned a cat or dog, and tried decorating their Christmas tree with tinsel would notice that pets LOVE to eat the stuff off the tree. The effects range from shiny dog/cat droppings to an unwanted Christmas gift: a huge emergency vet bill. By now I'm surprised no one has invented a tinsel made from an organic substance that can be harmlessly digested, rather than potentially tying up an animal's intestines, requiring emergency surgery to remove it. I'm saying make it digestible, not edible outright. A bad-tasting substance should be added to the concoction, so your pets are not encouraged to eat every strand off your tree. Make it taste nasty, but physically harmless.

       Actually, my idea was NOT to make Christmas decorations for pets to eat, if that's the idea you're getting. I'm saying make the tinsel digestible, meaning IF it gets eaten, it gets processed by the animal's digestive system, rather than block the intestines, possibly threatening its life. To discourage eating it after the first taste, it could have an unpleasant flavor added to it, like alum, or like some posters said, hot pepper. What exactly to make the plastic-like substrate out of, I'm not sure. Cellulose maybe?

       I have had pets for many years and none of them have ever eaten tinsel, though I know some of them do. The best advice if you have one of these pets is to just not use any tinsel. Otherwise, how about spaghetti?

       My brother who worked in the bar at Goldsmith's College in Lahndahn Town reckoned that they were still pulling the tinsel out of the beer pumps in February....
As a matter of interest, my cat likes to lick photographs. It doesn't even matter who or what is on them.
