Badly written as it is, I think Charlie has
a
good idea here. Predictive text is
currently
the closest in-phone feature to this -
that I know of.
However, since a lot of new phones
have
html browsing capabilities, users can
simply choose to visit a dictionary
website
- or ask for a definition on a search
engine. With a good layout and
simple
interface though, this could be
preferable
to either. |
Good idea - baked though. |
Also note you can text google to do this - and get it to translate into foreign languages as well. |
Does the dictionary in that link actually
provide definitions or just translations?
Because there seems to me to be a
difference. Besides, texting google
may be fine every now and then, but I
expect the texts are charged at the regular
rate? An in-phone program would be
particularly useful. |
Yeah -the google thing does cost the price of a standard text. |
It does both definition and translation (there's a syntax page somewhere - you prepend 't:' or 'd:' or something). |
An on-phone would be work out cheaper and quicker if you were looking up items all the time; the google one's quite handy to look up a word now and then. |
Or for pub quizzes probably. |
//Sorry Charlie - but there are Java based applications that do just this.// Not so fast there... I looked and looked and did not find a regular dictionary. These are for language translation. |

I disagree that this is baked. Seems simple enough, but I'm not convinced it's yet baked. (I realize that the oven is on, but that's just not the same.) |
I'd use this if I had it. Someone will do this soon. |
Ok - fair point [zigness], you're quite right. I just linked the first thing I found that looked reasonable - here's a better example (linky). |

Can we retrofit "Charlie's" HB account with spell & grammar check? |
Interesting idea, this is. Use it to text [UnaBubba] and others, I would. |
