A means of confirming the identity of a target, this is achieved by directing a laser pulse at a section of the targets surface that is designed to produce a specific set of wavelengths when super heated.

For instance a section of carbon fiber composite doped with a combination of metal salts.

Using spectral analysis and a variety of salts would allow for significant bit depth.

The primary application is to surprise an opponent with a unique form of security until it can be figured out.

       mass-spec?

       MALDI-TOF would provide plenty of bits of information, and is laser ionised.

       // laser ionised //

       ICP spectrometry can work with smaller samples and gives clearer results ... or use a big quadrupole MS and a plasma source. Neither need sample prep.
