Democracy Camp

A Kiddie government

  [vote for,
against]

Instead of having a normal camp, kids are placed into a secure complex with minimum adult supervision and are left to form their own system of rules, regulations and ultimately government.

*Activities including the organisation of food rationing,
*Communal problem solving, and many more.

The aim of this camp is to bring out a child’s inner leader and give them a taste of real life.

The adult supervision is there to stop “witch hunts”, brutal attacks, attempted murders e.t.c. and to prevent election fixing.

The use of a modern day environment and modern amenities means that there should be no hardship, and hopefully the adult supervision will mean that this doesn’t turn out like the book “Lord of The Flies”.

Para 3 and 4 are mutually exclusive.

O.K. sorry. All the adults do are stand there to stop people getting killed. Hey, they could even be in a completly seperate compound watching them through cameras.

Baked, in the form of Summerhill school - an "experimental" school where pupils have as much say as the teachers in what the rules are.

This happens in every playground in every school. The food rations (packed lunches) and financial resources (lunch money) are redistributed according to a strict set of rules (who can duff up who). Communal problems are solved by appealing to the stronger members of the community to enforce judgement according to who can duff up who. Leaders are chosen by consensus on a meritocratic basis (who can duff up everyone). So yes, excellent training for real life.

In final conclusion to this idea:

OH FUCK! I screwed up again!

You're thinking. That's more than a lot of people your age do.

Hopefully it won't turn out like this camp. (link).

[egbert] Thank you very much. Me and my friends (hopefully they'll be getting their lazy arses along here soonish) like to think and make the world a better place.

Btw we had our first discussion on quantum physics and the nature of the universe when we were 10.

The Camps name? Washington DC with George Dubya at the wheel

Are children really any less mature than adults in this sort of thing? Most of the history of human civilisation is like playground violence but less inventive.

       waugs, already commented.

Read the book from cover to cover, smashing good read. William Golding is a genius.
