With seniors and other vulnerable folks being told to avoid
crowds and generally stay at home, I was struck by the fact
that my 30something son never goes shopping but uses
Instacart, whereas my inlaws who are in their late 60s/early
70ies and live in an over 55 community, always go shopping.
So
seems like a perfect time to start a delivery service that
figures out how to help seniors get all their shopping done
without leaving the house.

Surely the obvious action is to try and get them out and about more, whittling down the numbers claiming pensions and medical benefits, and speeding up the inheritance by younger generations ? |
|
|
If you look at the historical record, that's exactly what happened during the Black Death - a lot of younger people unexpectedly became seriously wealthy, due to an "inheritance cascade" of elders dying off. |
|
|
I think there's a real need here, but I am not sure
how to fill it. What's needed to specifically
address older customers? |

Shopping in familiar places is socially rewarding.
I still remember my grandmother talking me
along to the local market, joking with the sellers
she'd bought from for decades. |
|
|
That's quite a ways away from dragging
something into a shopping cart and clicking
"check out". |

jutta is right (as always, ha). My husband and I call it our date
night. We know a lot of the cashiers and CS folks. We know a
lot of the other shoppers because it's a community. If I get
guaranteed, which is very possible, I would miss my weekly
outing and get depressed and my immune system would then
suffer. |

well, maybe we use clown suits :) |

Experience has shown that it is invariably wise to be polite to She Who Must Be Obeyed ... |

Sure, why not ? "Pogo", or "Pennywise" ... ? |

Viz-a-viz the idea, surely the solution would be for the in-
laws to send their grandson out to get their groceries,
wearing gloves, then pump him for gossip. |
|
|
Of course, that assumes the quaint, old-world condition in
which the different generations of the family live in the
same city. |
