DSLR Conkers is played in exactly the same way as the
traditional conkers game, except instead of two
chestnuts being bashed into each other there are two
top of the range DSLR cameras complete with lenses.
The winner is the person who's first to reduce their
opponent's camera to bits of
high tech rubble dangling
on the end of a camera strap.

[-] Un-necessary destruction of perfectly good technology.
Also, most DSLRs are pretty robust; you'll just end up with
glass all over your feet & not much other damage.
Or you could call it "art"... |

What [neutrinos_shadow] said but in different words,
specifically: nooooo whyyy D-:
Cruelty to technology )-: |

Welcome to my halfbaked idea, sensible sober
practical commentators. Cameras, are just like
every other item of technology - boxes of wires
and knobs. They're all fair game to the world of
halfbaked ideas, just as everything else is. That
they're tough just adds to the fun of bashing them
together. The impact noises alone would make it
worth while. I once crushed one in a press for one
of my students. It came out like a pressed flower. |
|
|
That then begs the question: why DSLR cameras, specifically?
Did a camera once hurt you? |
|
|
On the one hand, yes, good call, excellent idea, and
that sounds like a fun teaching lesson. |
|
|
On the other hand, the beauty of a polished and coated
optic, especially a more exotic optic such as a large,
aspheric, broad spectrum IR lens, can be transcendent,
like
the eye of a mythical creature, and the precise
machining of the lens mounts and mechanisms seems
a bit sad to destroy. Ah, the poignancy of life. |

|
And then: Live human head conkers. Certainly better spectator sport than boxing or cockfighting. |
|
|
//why DSLR cameras?// Well I've posted conker
bendy buses, and conked toasters. I think I also
posted conker demolition cranes. DSLR cameras
are treated like sacred objects. (read the
comments here) This reverence magnifies the
shock value of bashing them together. Rem I also
created the idea of a climbing wall made out of
Rolex watches. It's all just "stuff". It's people who
add the values and the reactions to those values,
and it's ideas like this that generate the questions
about those values. [Disclaimer - no DSLR Camera
was harmed in the creation of this idea] |

If we can't wantonly destroy the products of years of
painstaking research and development for the sake of a cheap
thrill here, then where can we? [+] |

as long as its not MY DSLR

//It's people who add the values and the reactions to those

Hmm... like "art", for instance? |
|

//And then: Live human head conkers.// |

Giraffes play conkers with their heads, kinda. |
|
|
I shutter to think of it. |

If the D falls off, the contestants will find themselves bashing
self-loading rifles together - presumably until the stock falls
off the barrel? That could take a long time, but might be
good aerobic exercise. |
|
|
[+], but might you not find that after a while people were
making cheap copies of DSLRs which were toughened up for
this very purpose? |
|
|
I could equally imagine a range of cameras
designed to disintegrate with ease in spectacular
fashion when impacted even slightly - oh wait....
already widely known to exist |
