Today any shooting game worth its weight has an online option. what this means is that you have a million people to show off to... so why must one be limited to an environment where he can take on a hundreds of different characters but all use the same kind of guns. Why not add gun customization. The gun would basically do the same thing. But the user can draw his gun design on paper, scan it and load it on the game. One could make huge guns, or change color, add your name at the side of the gun or other wacky designs. So this time when I am killed online I know who killed me!

id kill people with hippies.... the irony however would be too much to bear

You'd have to download any new designs that anyone has created. And if the server your playing on doesn't have it, your screwed!
thelambs, Jan 10 2004

[thelambs] actually you dont have to download anything. your gun design is an object and the file will not be very large at all. so when you connect to the server the object gets uploaded too.

Why stop at skins for weapons? Why not skinned avatars, vehicles and landscapes?
phoenix, Jan 11 2004

[phoenix] we might be able to do vehicles but landscape would be impossible because it would clash with the pre-existing-online environment. well thats what i think atleast.

I remember that in Quake 1 online play, you could customize all skins. Weapons, model kins, just not models. I think the file size for actual meshes for new weapon models to be implimented into the game would be too big to exchange every time you got on to play. It might be limited to client-side model changes only. Meaning everyone would be shooting you with hippies and bananas, but it would still be a hoot. In theory, if the net code progressed far enough along, and the file size for the weapons and skins was reduced, then it would be AWESOME! Very nice, [n_w] ... I guess the fish are living a little longer nowa days ...

       Um, no.

What you describe has been done, word for word, for years. And it does take quite some time to download the skins, I know.

I can recall the countless times I've been shot with a rocket fired from a nun in a wheelchair, or railed by a cow.

[thelambs] I am not talking about skins.. but more about objects.
