In those countries where traffic drives on the left, newly built roads should also curve to the left as this reduces the total distance to be travelled and would save fuel.
Why oh why do our so called "Civil Engineers" not understand this simple bit of geometry?
Or is it me?

I'm boggled to discover that the title says to curve roads the "right" way, while the example suggests curving to the left. |

Why not just keep them straight? Worked for the Romans... |

Can we start making madness jokes now? |

Maybe they would have to return to where you started, if not the return trip would have the roads curving to the right. |

How annoying, to be in a constant state of turningness. |

[MrBurns] I believe there is theory that states the shortest distance between two points is NOT a straight line -- space itself IS curved.. it's a distinct curve..
I don't know if this post is referring to such. |

exactly bris, I couldn't imagine a world that turned all the time |

In the case of dag's spiral, eventually the car would have to curve, too, to manage the decreasing radius. If you left it open and added a couple of ramps, you could drive right into the trunk (/boot) of your own car could drive right into the trunk (/boot) of your own car could drive right... I mean LEFT. Left. Sorry, for a minute there I forgot we were supposed to go left. Nevermind. |

Why not just make all roads downhill. |

And one-way. It'd take weeks to get home... |

In life, it's the journey that matters, not the destination... |

Certainly true on any orbital road around a major city, [DrC] |

OK, you people are right, this is a non starter. I came up with the idea at the end of a a ten mile run, on an especially long curve, in the heat. I was baffled at why the cars didn't cut the corners like I was doing. |

I just don't think clearly sometimes. |

I kind of wish that they would tilt all roads around corners so that your car wants to turn that way on its own. Many of the roads around here actually slope the wrong way and seem to be actively trying to fling you into the nearest field. |
