Crowd Crowding

Hands, not dollars to save the day

Some big projects don't need dollars so much as hands to get 'em done. What's needed is something analogous to Kickstarter to find willing hands to pitch in when a project needs skilled or unskilled workers for a day, a weekend or longer. It would need to be regional of course but it would be useful, yes? Maybe a website, maybe a segment on Make TV..

In the meantime searching "gigs" or "jobs" on Craigslist with a word like "volunteer" will give you plenty to do if you have the spare time. Medical test subject, free massage, and fashion models for a runway show were some the opportunities I found.

What if the skills you can offer, while technically impressive, don't seem to be the sort of things that anyone wants ?

One benefit of this is that people who were not gainfully employed but who were bursting with good advice could have someplace to deposit it.

You might need to pay these people though, in which case this would be "fund crowding".
