Scientists, archaeologists and explorers unearth various pots, clay tablets and such containing cuneiform writings, runes, hieroglyphics, etc. Decoding them gives understanding of the people and situations of the period.
RockCo now proudly offers your very own clay tablet* kit complete with a period
stylus and instructions for etching symbols to tell a story. Picking a cataloged historical language correct for your geographical area is important for authenticity, however the storyline is entirely up to you. You can describe to the layperson the accepted procedure for groveling in the presence of space alien overlords, turning straw into gold or how to train your dragon using the already-catalogued characters; making up a previously undiscovered character or two is ok because archaeologists cant be expected to have discovered all of them.
Upon completion the user would sprinkle the tablet with dirt or ash, rub the edges a bit and break off a little corner to provide the necessary wear, briefly bake in the oven and finally hide in the local dig site some evening.
* deluxe kit offers choice of pot or vase

The art and science of forgery detection is at least as advanced as the art and science of forgery - I think in the same way that the study of why perpetual motion machines don't work is more advanced than the study of how to make them work. |
