Convertible Movie
"Wait, didn't we see this movie before ?" "I know which one you mean, but that was an action/adventure ; this one's a rom-com" | |
It's rather common to overdub a movie or TV show with an ad hoc (usually comedic) soundtrack.
This idea is for a production, authored specifically to produce as many wildly different plots as possible in the same and different languages, using the exact same video footage, but with different soundtracks.
All, using the same actors, with the multiple audio recordings done near simultaneously during shooting (to get the ambient sound right) ; the test is to be able to fool lip-readers.
Bonus points if you can run the film backwards, reaudioed - and produce a different (acceptable) result.
Perfect...

You could use a lot of stock footage from <link>. |

Isn't this how the Magic Roundabout was made? |

So ambiguous actions only fully meaningful in audio context? Filming all the lines of one of those decision page number books and not know which film your watching. |

^ Well, that would/could be a subgenre, but I had in mind totally unrelated movies, sharing only video. |

Sorta like what friends would do when otherwise bored in a coffee shop, mocking another couple at a different table.... |

"They're spies, didn't you see the microfiche she passed him ?" |
|
|
"Nope, lovers : they were kissing before they came to the cafe, and she was giving him his gum back..." |
|
|
Ah yes, the decision paths are totally different genres. |

To have this work, it needs to rest on subtle missing information, like not accurately knowning what was passed, to allow the freedom of multiple plots. A bit like train crossing tracks. |
