The idea is to do commercial space probes.
The probe has a gazillion telescopes, scanners, whatever and a coin box and a robot arm, and some 50p pieces.
Organisations get 1 hour of observations, then they get shut out when the 50p runs out.
If they want more time, then they pay, and the robot
arm inserts another 50p piece.

Nice. Contests to place 50p in a slot with a robotic arm, at
your local supermarket, should win a hour of satellite sensor
telemetry. |
Of course the more unscrupulous probe operator could 'accidently' shut down the sensor, just as the really interesting data was coming through.. |
Could be the same coin all the time, if the robot arm can open the coin box. |

Given the huge resolution of space telescopes and the vastness of the universe, there must be - somewhere out there - some pretty pornographic star clusters. |
In fact, somewhere, there must be an intelligent civilisation whose night sky is dominated by only obscene constellations, and they must be wondering what the fuck is going on. |

Ah [Max] one of your sub assistant librarians must have gone through your library substituting the bowdlerised star atlases. You should try and get hold of some of the unexpurgated ones. Have you never wondered about Orion and Taurus? |
