Clear Snooker Balls
High impact lucite containing coins, goldfish, scorpions and other unlikely items | |
Instead of whatever it is that snooker and billiardballs are currently made of, these balls will be made of a suitable high impact, clear plastic, filled with colored items matching the color of the ball.
For example, a "yellow" ball will contain shiny brass coins, a "blue" ball a beautiful blue
butterfly, the black a black scorpion, etc. The white ball will retain its current opaque format, to more easily distinguish it.
There is a steady market for glass and lucite paperweights containing goldfish, butterflies, scorpions and arachnids. There is even a market for lucite toilet seats containing coins, buttons, and other items. So the technnology is clearly available.
(Note that no animals will be hurt in the production of this idea.)
The inspiration for this idea

More inspiration for this idea
http://englishconne...dfishinglassbag.htm The hackneyed "goldfish in a bag" Murano glass paperweight. (Btw, you cna buy them much more cheaply than this.) [dalek, Oct 04 2004, last modified Oct 05 2004]

it would distract your game. |
Not mine, it wouldn't (there being nothing to distract from in the first place). |
playing, dear, playing. not watching, you dipstick :) |
No, po, it's called a cue. Right on. |
you cue with a dipstick, eggy? |
Baked... $275 gets you a custom made set. See link. |

waugsqueke: Cool! The technology is clearly there, but I'm holding out for ones filled with coins, butterflies, etc. |

If you look at some of the other balls available at that link, I'd say you could get a set made like you want, dalek. The only questionable factors are weight and balance. Coins and butterflies have fairly different weights, and placement within the resin will affect how the ball rolls. |

For some reason, I find it quite funny that there are 'large print' easy-to-read pool balls available. |
I's like them to flash when hit. An inertial motion sensor, 555, resistor, capacitor, LED and a small lithium cel is all that's needed. |
You could get a really satisfying cascade from a good break. |
Unless done carefully, the balls wouldn't be balanced properly. (think of loaded dice, or those toy balls that don't bounce/roll in a straight line) |
Then it should improve my play. |

Howabout mini-bals inside the lucite? |
Like, 3/4" dia suspended in the centre. |
