In coffee or tea it sinks to the bottom, is tasteless and looks exactly like sugar. In biscuits and cakes the crunchy taste will only serve to remind them of the pounds they are losing!

       Unscrupulous merchants on America's western frontier would adulterate lots of goods with cheap or free materials. Sand in sugar was one of the most common dodges.
