Channel changing transitions

Digital television boxes (at least, in the UK) increasingly have support for multiple tuners, memory and processing power. Thus, it should be simple to add common edit transitions to the simple channel change. When you change channels you could have a slow dissolve, a wipe, a fade out/fade in, and so on.

       A morph? I think that's what it's called. The trouble is, you need to (or at least you used to need to) define anchor points that linked the two images together - like eyes, tip of nose etc. What with image recognition in the state it's in today, you may be able to do this automatically, I don't know. Would be interesting [daseva]

       Here's how I interpret it. I'm lounging about on my day off, sort of sleeping, sort of not, kind of watching my soap opera, kind of not. I look up and the male lead, strong, dark and sensational, is on the screen.   

       As I lean over to give claire a pat, my elbow changes the station by mistake. To my horror, I look up and my hunky soap stud is becoming dimmer, and dimmer, and now has faded into a shadowy Michael Jackson, walking out of a courthouse. +

       Incorporate the "swirl" effect: Commercials (adverts) spiral down into a porcelain bowl, complete with flushing sound (perhaps with additional noises t/b/d by the viewer).
