The word "How?" springs to mind at this point.

Cat tag / Menu

Recently I have had the misfortune of semi-adopting a feline friend...

This is not just any friendly SPCA special, no, it is one of those cats who's descendants pictures you can purchase from the breeder and have mounted on you wall.

The problem is that in the few weeks I have been //looking after// it, it seems to have gained a couple Kg's.

The immune-averted creature needs to be kept on a strict diet of x.5 grams of middle aged cat pellets.

My cat has picked up on this and enjoys a lavish serving of fish and milk next door every night.

I am not too keen to bring an end to this, the neighbours provide my cat with free food and if they stop feeding Sir AlexanderFredrickWittsPatrik, he will stroll into the next house and so forth...

I propose that his tag be fitted with a small and accessible notepad-- perhaps in pendant style so that it can hold folded paper.

On the notepad, you could write what kind of foods he/she can eat and the correct amounts. You neighbours can then write the date and time, tick what they have given him and send him off. Now, if the cat gets smart and moves to the next house, they too can check the tag before sharing their fridge with our little monster.

The cat can no longer receive a guilt free, double serving of Dorado as I will check the tag before I feed him.

Annotation:

The problem is self-limiting. The cat will eventually explode. Do not look on this as a bad thing. Take pictures.

Getting the cat to hold still while you write will be a problem. Make it detachable.

Serve the food that you give him in a way that makes the cat burn more calories. (on the top of a high cabinet)

Make it a simple button on the collar. Press once, it turns red; twelve hours later it turns green again. Explanatory note on collar.

       Better dorado than doritos.

       Ooh, (marked-for-tagline).

"Give a cat a fish, and you feed it for a day. Teach a cat to scrounge three fish a day, and after a week you get a hilarious video of a cat exploding."

Or just use a sign like the ones they use in hospitals:

       "NILL BY MOUSE"

Milk not good for cats! (aside) but great idea... have similar situation to deal with myself in relation to next door's cat. Cats, despite what anyone else will tell you, WILL overeat, and can become lazy lumps! Having said that I did once have a cat who ate a full tin of catfood every day, and was as skinny as a rake.

That wasn't hairballs your cat had, that was bulimia.
