You're selling a house, but you've moved out all of the furniture. Empty houses look horrible.

Cardboard furniture to the rescue - totally flimsy and unfunctional, but classy looking furniture makes your house look 'homely' .

Sort of like the cardboard hifi components that Ikea has, but on a larger scale.

I know that the US census used a LOT of cardboard in their office environs during this years work. They might be a good group to look up first. Anyone know who their supplier was?

I used a cardboard box as a bedside table for about a year. Worked just fine.

(Yeah, I know that wasn't the gist of this idea. Personally, I'd rather see the rooms without the furniture if that's what I'm buying. It's easier to imagine my own stuff there, and what I'll need to buy or sell. I *would* use this to try out new arrangements, though; moving bookcases and beds and all is too difficult for playing around with possibilities.)

I used the box from my CD-R drive as an end table for three years...worked fine, except for being a little narrow...

I think Bookworm's idea is a good one, easily moved phony furniture to test arrangements before moving in the heavy stuff...

Bookworm has a point about seeing a room without the furniture. At least that way you get to see any flaws in the carpet.

However, if it's cardboard furniture, couldn't you just fold it up and put it in a corner if you wanted to see the bare room itself? Seems likely.

I'm actually reading this entry on one of those cardboard monitors they use in furniture stores to showcase their nasty particle board computer desks.

I once made a fake sofa out of cardboard boxs and covered it with fabric for a party.Great fun to watch someone sinking down to the floor trying not to spill their drink.

I sat on one of Frank Gehry's cardboard chairs once (see link, not [rmutt]'s - the other one). Very comfortable.

As a college student, I worked in a paper mill's HR department. They didn't have any furniture for my cube other than a desk so they gave me carboard chairs. They were not only confortable but lightweight and strong. They were made for a convention or something to prove the stregnth of their product.

Excellent idea and the new homeowner could keep the collection for a little more if they were to poor to hit up Ikea
