With the falling price of wem cam technology, why not mount a camera on the front windscreen of newly manufactured cars? This could run a 15 minute loop continuously until the car is involved in an accident, when the footage would be saved. This could prove beyond doubt the drivers innocence (or guilt!)
making everyone drive more carefully, and saving time and money in insurance jobs.

I like this idea, and i've seen the "drive-cam" website. I had a similar idea for an aftermarket product with the digital camera incorporated into the rearview mirror of a car. It would record both front and rear wide-angle views simultaneously, recording a 15 to 30-second loop digitally (a full 360 view would be even better, with overlapping views). An accelometer would sense an impact, and preserve the images captured just prior to and after a collision. I think this needs better resolution and optics than a webcam, but I think could still be priced under $100. |
