Why do you, like everyone else, suffer from boredom occaisonally even in the age of TV, videogames, the internet, and other great time-occupiers? Its because you dont have enough buttons to press!
There should be buttons everywhere, on the walls, ceiling and other surfaces like in Mr Willy Wonkas
great glass elevator although not necessarily in an elevator but definately in your bedroom or wherever. These buttons could do allsorts but theres no reason for them to do anything particularly useful, they would just be there as an extra source of interactive entertainment when you are feeling understimulated. A lot of them will be wired (or with modern technology wireless with radiowaves, bluetooth, etc) to things like audio devices or LEDs to make sound "blips" or "zaps" and make coloured lights flash in your own desired pattern.
Before you hold out your baked potatoe, im aware that there are already interactive homes with buttons with useful remote functions that can e.g. open curtains and stuff. What i am talking about here is a panoply of buttons that relieve boredom rather than buttons to save you time with specific tasks. It would be just another source of interactive entertainment. It could also be used to impress your friends when you invite them over. It could make conversation more interesting as you augment it with effects at the touch of a button. Want to start a little pub-style quiz in your own home with your friends? Get ready to press the "UVAVU" and "IRANU" buttons (which you will understand if you happen to be british).

Our house has these already. All sorts of different shapes and sizes, coloured, flashing, and they ALL make some sort of electronic bleep, whistle or thrrrrrp, play a tune or make an animal noise. One device does all three, playing "Old MacDonald had a farm" with electronic chimes or in the voice of whichever animal button you press. There is a doctor's set with a stethoscope that randomly switches between a heartbeat and a cough and a pager that sounds just like my SMS alert (grrrr). Bob the builder teaches you to count, a frog with a nursery school teacher-like voice will teach you to write the letters of the alphabet (upper and lower case). The worst part for anyone with any musical sensibility is when the batteries start to run down and the things can't hold pitch consistently. |

So I'll have to call baked on this one I'm afraid, through clenched teeth. But I'll give you a croissant anyway, for allowing me the chance to vent my frustrations. |

I hit the Google Search button when I want to see how to Triple-Boot a machine to run Windows Me, 2000 Professional and Linux Mandrake. Later, my eyes dry out again. |
