I got this idea while watching a documentary on sculptor Lisa Roet. I'd like to see a giant bronze statue that is half buried in the earth. Over the years the amount of dirt piled around the statue would change, either covering more of the statue or eroding away to reveal more. I first imagined a
giant ape emerging from the ground, but other themes might work just as well.
Could also try half-burying a statue on the beach as well, and let the tides do their work.
Reminded me of this.

"An archeological expedition to the deepest parts of California today discovered a partially buried bronze statue of an orangutan holding what appears to a wooden torch or possibly a flaming banana. The cuneiform writing on the attached plaque is indicipherable as of yet, but there appears to be a carving of "what looks to be a half eaten croissant" in the corner". |

(Hmm... If I die, will I lose my tan first?)
Thought-provoking. |

Actually, I do like sculpture ideas and this
is an interesting potential element. |

I think we need more collossal bronze structures myself, so [+] from me. We've known how to make them since Ancient times and they are definitely underused as civic structures |
They might be a bit expensive at the moment, mind you, but there must be cheaper alternative materials to bronze out there currently. |
Of course there are; you just need to devise a bronze formulation that doesn't contain either copper or tin. |
Half buried objects are hardly an original idea, as are objects placed in tidal paths. Sorry [simonj] but I fail to see a new idea here. |
although nice and artsy, I do agree with [xenzag] |

More interesting would be to find a set of giant feet protruding from the ground, then you could use your imagination to speculate on how far they continue to extend in a downwards direction; why they are there; how they got there....etc. You could make the legs (covered with spiky metal hairs of course) hundreds of feat long, so that anyone trying to dig them up, would simply give up after a short while. |
Piece would need to be installed over a period of nights in some remote spot, then left there to be discovered. |
I think Idea cannot last over the long term. Remember that the Colossus of Rhodes was made of bronze, and eventually it got recycled, despite being famous and old. (Of course it was also a wreck, because of an earthquake, and the pieces were just laying there for several centuries.) |
The Colossus of Rhodes didn't get recycled, it got stolen. |
//hundreds of feat long// |
Or dozens of achievements long. |
I like it, art that hints at art, or organically changes over decades. |
