Bungy Cord With Gauge shows how much built up tension has been contained within those stretched fasteners.

It's built in of course, and calibrated with simple pictograms, right up to the one that shows what happens after the elastic limit has been exceeded - ie a graphic depiction of a nasty lashing from the flying hook end, as it springs back and hits you where it does most damage.

Annotation:

       You're on a roll.

I've often wondered why bungee cords don't have a 'failure stitch' like you find on rigging straps.
