Bungee Chair

Gives you that "free floating" feeling

What do you think of when sitting in a chair? Comfort, right? What could be more comfortable than having the feeling of floating while seated? Behold the solution: a comfy chair (size and design unimportant at this stage) suspended in a frame by bungee cords. The cords are attached to the top corners of the frame with equal tension from all 4 directions (or more depending on the size of the chair/sitter) and attached to the bottom and sides of the chair. The bottom of the chair is connected to the bottom of the frame by a rope to prevent the chair from *sproinnnging* to the top of the frame. Sitting in this chair gives a sense of weightlessness. Unfortunately, I don't have a drawing handy to explain better, but I'll try and make an image to be uploaded.
Note: I realize the description is somewhat vague, but this idea has been baked before... by me.

Use bungee cords instead of rope and voila! [Cedar Park, Oct 04 2004]

You mean like this? http://www.justaswinging.com/swing.htm
CAUTION - simliar advertised on *late night TV* last night - Mrs Silly and I were bored. [PeterSilly, Oct 04 2004]

[kbecker]'s link to the big magnet. Not exactly what I had in mind... [Cr0esus47, Oct 04 2004]

Sortof a hanging bouncy-chair for adults, then... + 'cause you baked it.

If you want true weightlessness on earth get a really big magnet:

<link moved to please people who don't know how to cut and paste>

Well, now DrC. will complain that the required power plant is "magic". Perhaps someone can come up with a good idea for that.

kbecker, a [link] function is below the idea. We don't need no steenkeeng copy/pastes.
Seems to me [jurist] linked to a different site featuring those airchairs one before.

I think it was a friend of my brother who did a bungee jump in his wheelchair.

[PeterSilly], please put ***ADULTS ONLY*** warnings on links like this to prevent me getting the sack.

[Cr0esus47], do you mean a hammock?
Mayfly, Jun 12 2003

[Mayfly], no, not exactly. I had originally designed it to be a comfortable work space where you actually sit down in a real chair but you've got the floating sensation. I had also designed it to have (but never added) outlets for power, phone, plus swivel arms with shelves to put my typewriter, phone, a stereo, etc.. (this idea was before I had a home PC, so this seemed pretty modern to me...) But since I was on a tight budget and even tighter building schedule, I only built the frame and hooked up one of those chrome-legged kitchen chairs.

I put *late night TV* - what else do you want?
PeterSilly, Jun 12 2003

Now I'm wondering what it *would* feel like to be suspended by every molecule in your body, as in the case of the micromagnetic levitating frog. Would the distribution cause you to feel no force at all?
