How often do you get asked for an ID when using your credit card? I, personally, have only been asked once. Most people generally have some form of identification on them at all times, but for the sake of both safety and convenience, wouldn't it be better to have an ID built into your credit card? This could prevent people using a fake ID to shop with your credit card or prevent someone from using it when an employee fails to ask for proper identification. There could be a scannable chip on the card that held your picture and the pictures and information of anyone authorized to use it.

Not entirely sure what you mean by a "scannable chip", but picture IDs on credit cards are Widely Baked - shop at Citibank. [This message paid for by our sponsor.]

I believe you can get your photo attached to the top corner of your credit card these days.

I heard of one bank recently that will no longer offer bank cards with photos. Apparently, merchants weren't making use of the photo id anyway and it isn't worth the cost.

You're gonna end up making merchants get additional software. And they get paid just the same as it is.
