Could laundry detergent manufacturers include insect repellant in their detergent or fabric conditioners ? I guess this would be useful if you laundered all your holiday outfits before you traveled, and it would save spraying insect repellent directly onto the skin. I admit this would be no use to naturists though.

'Soap and detergents act strictly as contact insecticides, with no residual effect', so repellant must be added separately. [angel, Aug 24 2001, last modified Oct 21 2004]

The problem with adding insect repellant to detergent is that the detergent is (should be) rinsed out during the laundry process. Maybe a citronella-scented thingy in your tumble-dryer?

The hair product people seem to have solved the rinsing out problem - shampoo and conditioner in one
