First of all, let me say that the "brick wall" is to be composed of cardboard boxes, perhaps painted as to resemble bricks. These are arragned in a wall 20' beyond the finish line of a drag strip. The winner is the first one to cross the finish without going into the "wall". Those that hit the wall
are disqualified.
This should be fun for about 20 minutes until my ADD kicks in again.

Instead of any old run of the mill dragstrip, this competition would most appropriately be conducted at "The Brickyard". [link] |

I think it should be a real brick wall to add an incentive to stop. |

|
They did this on a Road Rules/Real World contest using old hotrods and a pyramid of champagne glasses. |
|
|
They also did it much,much more slowly on an old episode of the Brady Bunch. Marsha won, I believe. That's right. Marsha, Marsha, Marsha. |

//It uses a painted line instead of a brick wall// |

|
Yes, it's called a Baulk Line. |

As much as I like the idea, I think that if you hit the wall in any competitive racing sport (regardless of what the wall is made of) it will greatly reduce your chances of winning anyhow. But if you want to make it more interesting, suspend the track up on a high platform the same way that bridges and freeway ramps are supported from underneath. Build it without the Jersey wall or the guard rails. That way there is no wall to hit and when you get eliminated, you are REALLY eliminated! Perhaps it should be about 2 to 3 feet in the air so nobody gets seriously hurt but when you go off the edge of the track, you cannot get back on. |

Last night I went out to my local highway and dismantled the guard rail from the outside edge of the exit ramp. This morning there were over a dozen cars in the grass beside the ramp. |

Yeah, but Super MarioKart isn't real. |

|
An oval track on top of a highrise building with a flat roof might be interesting. |

It must really be difficult to live on the top floor of that building. If there was ever a time to NOT hit the wall.. this would be it. |
