For emergency use.

A smoke/gas hood or mask which, when donned, activates an integral oxygen sensor.

If the air inside the mask is becoming oxygen deficient - something a simple mask can't protect againt - a light flashes and an alarm sounds, enabling the wearer to take action before becoming unconscious (oxygen deficiency causes subtle incapacitation).

There is a xenon strobe on the top of the mask to assist in locating casualties in conditions of poor visibility.

That is all.

Annotation:

Cool. Shouldn't it have a tiny bit of compressed oxygen to compensate for at least a few breaths? I mean, it's nice to know you're about to be asphyxiated and not be able to do anything about it, but a running start would be good too.

If the inside of the helmet were lined with mercury oxide, the heat of the fire would liberate enough oxygen to keep you alive long enough to be burned to death (but, alas, not long enough to die of mercury poisoning).

Or gold oxide. Less lethal yet more expensive... because you're worth it.

I like the xenon strobe. It would make the death- throes look like that scene from Alien.
