Brand shield

Buy stuff not brands
  (+2)

  [vote for,
against]

Online supermarket where you get your stuff according to what it is and not according to what it was branded.

You could specify that you don't like a certain brand, or that you want a certain quality. People mark the quality, freshness and vote on the stuff they buy, but they don't know which brand they are voting on (and soon don't care either).

Gives the smaller suppliers a good chance to compete. And gives you the opportunity to try out a more diverse diet.

Of course the 4.99 tricks and "special offers" must continue for a supermarket to succeed, but the people buying here still get the good feeling they are defeating the system, in a small way.

It needs to replace all the packages with generic ones and get a lot of user reviews. Not only can the manufacturers get good feedback on what people like or not about the products, but consumers can as well. With feedback from users, this can also reduce the effects of branding on people who don't use the market. e.g. 40% of consumers think that ExpensiveBrand vacuums wear out too fast.

Won't the cost of repackaging everything before delivering it wipe out your margins?

//the cost of repackaging everything before delivering it // Most supermarkets in the UK do this already. Most of their stock is in their own-label packaging. But it is obviously packaged for the supermarket on the same production lines as the stuff supplied to other supermarkets or the stuff supplied with a huge markup as "branded".

This could go a step further and mix all the shielded brands together to give the spice of life variety packets. Life is like a box of chocolates, sometimes you get a Paddington's.
