Surely it is impossible to boycott everything. Boycotting everything would include life. Of course if you were to die, then you would no longer be boycotting death and therefore still failing to live by the rules. Oh I realy should stop taking n00bs seriously. |

Monk - Special K Cereal + Key = Monkey |

So what's the difference between striving to not want things, and boycotting them? This *is* buddhism, and thus baked for almost 3000 years. |

|
I'm boycotting this idea. |
|
|
I wash my hands of it too |

[thumbwax] You should never have given a monk the key to the banana plantation, eh? |

Just to clarify: What you have or don't have in life has virtually nothing to do with Buddha's teachings. The Middle Path is all on the inside. In fact, the path of asceticism (of "boycotting" things) was investigated and explicitly rejected by Buddha. |

Actually, it's possible you already understand this, but your post is kindof ambiguous. |

Desirous attachment towards things is different from enjoyment of things. In fact, the idea is that desirous attachment actively prevents the full enjoyment of things. My own experience is that this is very true. |
|

Enjoyment of things is encouraged! And it isn't considered "wrong" to have things or even desirous attachment for things. Although desirous attachment is quietly regarded as a kind of misguided suffering... towards which others have compassion... especially teachers! |

Althought the whole concept of Buddhism as "boycotting the self" is totally wrong, I know that this is an easy mistake to make as it was also my first, mistaken impression of the Dharma. |

I vote you start by boycotting the internet.. ;op |

The title sounds more like an admonition than it does the name of a religion. |

I thought this was a religion worshipping Geofrey Boycott |

Self-denial is not the same as boycotting something. Boycotting is refusing to buy something to make a political point. Self-denial is, well, refusing to bow to one's inner desires for one's own spiritual (or physical) health. I'm no expert on Buddhism, but I'd say that neither of those concepts really belong together or have much to do with Buddhism. |

In the meantime, I have to pray. Oh Great Geoffrey... |
