       I recently learned that runners run on the blacktop because running on the sidewalk eventually leads to them developing little cracks in their bones.   

       That's how hard sidewalks are.

       People in wheelchairs and on crutches will just have to adapt their instruments to accommodate the new sidewalk. Maybe an anti-bounce damper of some sort.
