Bouncing Betty Pen

In the Vietnam War there was a booby trap device called Bouncing Betty (M164A2) which was a mine that leapt into the air when triggered before exploding. It was based on the World War 2 German S-mine.

Its ability to unexpectedly leap into the air is what gives Bouncing Betty Pen its name.

I'm very particular about other people using my pens, which I also constantly misplace and have to search for, so this idea adresses both of these issues.

Bouncing Betty Pen's main attribute is a strong springing out leg feature that causes it to ascend noisily into the air, or across a horizontal surface depending on where it has been left. This action is triggered by a signal sent from a mobile phone app with which the pen has previously been paired. Any pen can be fitted into the Bouncing Betty Pen holder and the powerful spring manually compressed, ready to be unleashed. The action/mechanism is simple. The spring remains locked in place until the signal is received from the phone.

Now when you have lost your precious pen, all you need do is trigger its Bouncing Betty action using your phone. Its powerful spring will cause it to explosively become airborne, activate a flashing led and emit a very annoying whining sound.

What keeps popping into my head every time I read this title. https://www.google....id:ZpsiQ5llPu4,st:0
Maybe it will stop now. [2 fries shy of a happy meal, Sep 04 2024]

Hmm... probably needs to be symmetrical & "re-settable". Nitinol wires wrapped around the pen at a couple of places, a small power source & a capacitor for a fast pulse. Signal = wires unwrap & straighten (wouldn't even need to be fully straight, just "less wrapped" than initial).
I reckon it could be done small enough that it could be the ACTUAL pen body (rather than a larger "holder").

Kids everywhere will love ths idea, booby trapped pencil jars on a classmates desk will become a thing, briefly before they're banned, many eyes will be put out, school nurse and A&E visits will rise creating increased staffing requirements in the field and a small boost to the economy from those extra jobs, one (who was many) would have approved [+] .. besides, it'll teach the little buggers to be more cautious which is a valuable life lesson.

Will it cause injury if deployed while held?
