Bodyboard
Build a skateboard into your clothes | |
You've seen how a skateboarder sets off - throws his board along the ground and jumps on it. I'd like to build the wheels and supports into the front of my clothes, so I could dive horizontally and "fly" six inches above the ground. Kinda like sledging, but without the sledge.
It'd only be feasible
on a smooth, sloped area though, and you'd run to a stop fairly quickly. Would it be possible to kick with your feet, breast-stroke style? Strong boots you could brake with would be desirable too.

gee david_ I guess HB ers are old fogies such as myself who can't stand pain... sorry |
|
|
See, what I do is get on my longboard face-down and go at it. Load of fun it is. You get a bun for letting me imagine yet another way to hurt myself. |
|
|
As a young fogie (47) who doesn't heal as fast as he used to, I still love the idea, but a good suspension system will be required to soak up that initial hit before I'll buy one. Might be a great workout, if you could develop a stroke style to fit. |

Gonna need a face-down posture to be comfortable, though, so the helmet is going to require angled optics. |

I believe this is merely a variation of the luge suit, that was posted by someone (possibly me) not too long ago, only that idea's not there any more. |

I'm right with normzone on the suspension... although I'd be ok with not much more than some decent rubber bushes, it needn't be too complex. k_sra's link is very interesting (go watch, RollerMan's pretty much exactly what I had in mind). Baked then, I guess... |

Man, the rollerman videos have some the most excurcuiatingly bad camerawork I've seen... cool suit though. |

[5th Earth], glad I'm not the only one. |

[BrauBeaton], as regards going head first, yeah, true. But that's how I ride a sledge; that way you can steer/brake with your feet. On a sledge at least, it gives you more control, and makes you feel faster (your eyes are only a foot or so from the snow). Rollerman's head-first too... though I have to say I'm not holding him up as an example of sanity :-) |

welcome David! sorry about the other idea! |
|
|
This would be fun if you had wheels in the toes of your shoes and the wrists of the suit so you could sort of swim along - except that your face is going to be nose-grindingly close to the pavement... |
