Banana Tubes

A shamelessly derivative idea.

Like a tube of toothpaste, except the bottom end is open and uncrimped. Shove a peeled banana into into it, then roll and crimp the bottom of the tube shut. When you want to eat your banana, you flip open the cap and squeeze the tube, turning the fresh banana into mush as it's forced through the small opening and into your mouth. Then, when sated, just flip the cap shut and preserve your snack for later consumption. As a bonus, when loading the tube with a fresh banana, you can also add some nice extras like chocolate syrup, or peanut butter and honey, or mashed strawberries and condensed milk, just for variation.

I dunno, mushy bananas are not my personal favorite thing, but some people out there must like it. Especially with sundae goodies mixed into it.

yes, but would it look cool on centre court at Wimbledon?

But you wouldnt' be able to use your banana as a fortune telling device. (Ask it a question, take a bite, and see if the black bits in the middle look like a Y or an N for yes or no.) And that's the only reason I eat the stinky yellow fruit.

Why don't you try it out. When banana season comes here (Israel) I will.

As a banana proponent I must vote against this. There are few things more disgusting than mushy 'nanas. We recently had a hot and humid spell here, and I had to toss a few bananas that turned mushy as a result.
waugsqueke, Jul 01 2002

This may be, waugsqueke, because you are used to non-mushy 'nanas only. I still think the idea of a portable yogurt beverage sounds gross (Indian cuisine notwithstanding), but the kids love it. This sounds like a great snack idea for those kids that are currently into things like Gogurt(sp?) and Fruit-by-the-Foot.

Just buy banana frubes. They're easier and far less messy. Still, I like the mixing options: they'd provide great opportunities for practical jokes i.e. salt and nutmeg on the banana - no-one'd know until it hit their tongue, by which point it'd be too late. Hahaaa!

Try this with a piping bag (for icing cakes) or one of those syringe-style ones and see how practical it is. I have a sealant injector gun (used for sealing round baths, doorframes etc.) which coudl probably take 5 or 6 bananas at a time in the cartridge. Quite why anyone would want the capability to extrude up to 6 babanas in a semi liquid jet is not clear to me. I guess you could use it to add real banana ripple to soft icecream, which would be nice, especaily if you mixed chocolate sdauce with the bananas to make a swirl. Sorry if this seems OT or a recipe.

OR you could add peanut butter into the mix. Wow.
Matty, Jul 03 2002

Outfit the head of the tube with different shapes so that the banana comes out of the "piping bag" in star shapes, circles, squares, triangles, small silhouettes of small and cute and fuzzzy wuzzy animals like racoons, whatever you like.

I find that simply wrapping the banana up tight with some duct tape and leaving one end exposed does the banana-goo trick nicely.

This would be a perfect tool to add to my morning routine. I often completely mash up a banana and stir it into my oatmeal to give it a creamy consistency. However it's hard to get all the lumps out and sometimes a large banana is too much. A "banana tube" would let me squirt in a perfect amount of perfectly mashed banana. Thumbs up!
