Balloon fishing

Real fishing without injuring the fish

Instead of a hook on your lure, there's a tiny capsule which, when tugged, inflates rapidly with a tiny little discharge of CO2 or pressurized air, to a size and firmness sufficient to lodge itself inextricably in a fish's mouth, textured roughly like sharkskin to help avoid it being tugged out when reeling the fish in. To remove it, there's a button on the lure to quickly deflate the balloon.

I looked up "fish hooks that don't hurt the fish" and, I shit you not, the second result that came up was a link to a hook called the "Super Death Hook" on the Cabela's site!

Anyone proposing any such "painless" method should have to demonstrate it on themselves before being granted a short-expiry license.

There is also the No Hook At All method, where you simply attach some food to the end of line and let the fish have a nice painless/terror free lunch.

Training fish to eat off off lines? 8th would have loved that. How about a non-hook which sets off a small fire cracker near the fish? Just enough to scare them a moment after they've eaten.

Well first of all, I never said "painless". I said "without injuring".

Xen, the idea is to appeal to sport fishermen, to hopefully REPLACE injurious hooks without completely taking away the sporting aspect of reeling in their catch, because if you do that nobody will adopt the new method.

Right well expand my proposal to anyone proposing any method.

Also if reeling in a catch is such fun, I suggest that sports fishermen are attached by the mouth and reeled across the river/pond/lake/sea. Could have automatic installations of reels on the opposite bank from where the fishermen gather. Every 10 minutes or so armed security guards come and attach the non-injuring attachment to the sports fishermen's upper jaws, and let the reeling begin! They can be released harmlessly at the other side and allowed to make their own way back without injury.

I'm confused, poc. Are you suggesting that this is somehow *worse* or *more* painful than barbed steel hooks? Because we don't require fishermen to have those tested on themselves, so why would we impose such a requirement on something like this?
21 Quest, Jul 31 2023

       Maybe we should require that!

Don't worry I'm confused as well. Just having a little rant. Feel free to delete my comments if you think they distract from your idea.
